Costa Rica – Demographic Description

Citizens for the Costa Rican WWViews on Climate and Energy were from all over the country. The percentages of citizens in the consultation were very close with the reality of the entire population, in terms of gender, age, place of living and education level. Costa Rica does not have the environmental groups that citizens join through formal membership in EU and US (e.g. Greenpeace, WWF, etc).

The number of participants in the consultation was 74. There was a total of 39 women (52.70%) and 35 men (47.30%). Regarding with the place of living, there was 60 people from an urban region (81.08%) and 14 people from rural region (18.91%). Furthermore, there was 5 (6.75%) citizens that only have some secondary completed, 3 (4.05%) citizens that have the secondary completed, 21 (28.37%) that have completed some university, and 44 (59,45%) citizens that have University completed, plus one (1.35%), which educational background is unknown.*

In addition to this, there was 30 (40.54%) people in the range of 18-29; 12 (16.21%) people in the range of 30-39; 12 (16.21%) people in the range of 40-49; 18 (24.32%) between 50-59 and 1 (1.35%) people that had 70 or more. Plus one (1.35%) which age is unknown.

*Percentages of the population on educational level (these data are for Costa Ricans 15 years old and older): percentage of Costa Rican population who has not gone to school (4%), percentage of the population whose highest education is primary school (35%), percentage of the population whose highest education is high school (34%), percentage of the population whose highest education is university (20%).
